Apparel & Embroidery Care

How to Care for Your Custom Apparel

At Alef By Cordoba, we use high-quality inks, threads, and adhesives to ensure your brand looks sharp. However, the lifespan of any printed or embroidered garment depends on how it’s treated at home. Follow these professional guidelines to keep your gear vibrant and fresh.

⚠️ The First 24 Hours

Do not wash your garment for at least 24 hours after pick-up. The thermal adhesive layer needs time to fully crystallize and bond with the fabric fibers. Washing or drying too soon is the leading cause of peeling or cracking.

Washing Instructions

When it’s time for the first clean, follow the "Cold & Inside-Out" rule:

  • Turn Inside Out: This is the #1 way to protect your print or embroidery from friction and abrasion during the wash cycle.

  • Use Cold Water: Always wash in cold water to preserve the integrity of the print and prevent the garment colors from fading.

  • Gentle Cycle: Set your machine to the "Delicate" or "Gentle" cycle to minimize mechanical wear and tear.

  • Mild Detergent Only: Avoid harsh chemicals, bleach, or fabric softeners, as these can break down the bond between the design and the fabric.

  • No Dry-Cleaning: The high temperatures and solvent-based solutions used in dry-cleaning will damage the custom prints.

Drying & Ironing

Heat is the enemy of custom branding. To keep your designs crisp:

  • Air Dry (Recommended): Hanging your clothes to dry is the gentlest way to preserve the fabric and the print.

  • Low Heat Only: If you must use a dryer, use the "Tumble Dry Low" or "Air Fluff" setting. High heat can cause the print to "cook" and become brittle.

  • Never Iron the Print: If ironing is necessary, turn the garment inside out and use a low-temperature setting. Never let a hot iron touch the printed or embroidered area directly.

Storage & Daily Wear

  • Mind the Sun: Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight (like leaving a shirt on your dashboard in the Odessa heat) can fade prints over time. Store in a cool, dark place.

  • Avoid Abrasion: Try to avoid rubbing the printed area against rough surfaces, heavy tool belts, or abrasive materials.

  • Handle with Care: Oils and dirt from your hands can affect the print over time; handle your custom gear with clean hands to keep the colors popping. Printed apparel and keep it looking vibrant and fresh for a longer duration. Always remember to check specific care instructions provided by the manufacturer for the best results.
