What is a USDOT Number?
"The USDOT Number serves as a unique identifier when collecting and monitoring a company's safety information acquired during audits, compliance reviews, crash investigations, and inspections." - FMCSA
Who should have a USDOT Number?
"Companies that operate commercial vehicles transporting passengers or hauling cargo in interstate commerce must be registered with the FMCSA [Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration] and must have a USDOT Number. Also, commercial intrastate hazardous materials carriers who haul types and quantities requiring a safety permit must register for a USDOT Number." - FMCSA
Some USDOT Requirements
Decal includes company name or operator name (company logo with name).
Decal includes “US DOT” followed by the assigned number (typically, 8 digits).
State abbreviation follows the number (if required).
Font is legible from 50 feet (ca. 15 m) away during daylight hours (minimum height of 2in”).
Color of decal contrasts with background color (try to avoid foil or chrome colors as primary colors).
Must be on both sides of the power unit (cab or vehicle door) before entering into service.
